Being a Priest in WoW is very different from back in the days of AD&D. I can remember playing with certain hard ass dungeon masters who kept such careful tally of every action that his players took, that he could impose holy sanctions on holy characters that had committed acts contrary to that characters alignment. At least the Priests in WoW don’t have that to deal with.
Priests are physically weak, and not really fit for melee combat, but of all the classes, Priests have the very best healing spells, some of the best defensive spells, and the ability to resurrect fallen comrades, making them highly valued to an effective group.
Though most of the Priest’s spells reflect the compassionate nature of the Priest, they do have some very powerful offensively strong spells as well.
Prior to choosing a Priest as a character, a player should familiarize themselves with the assorted racially exclusive spells. The priest is the only class which has racially specific spells. This is due to the diversity of deities worshiped by the different races.
Besides the benefits of the Priest’s impressive array of spells, they are also endowed with certain character abilities. The Priests ability tree is separated into three branches, discipline, holy, and shadow. The Priest has the most extensive and impressive number of talent upgrades of all the character classes. Through the accumulation of talent points, the Priest is able to become increasingly formidable, and ever more dire for those the Priest targets as opponents.
With their combined healing capacity, and defensive abilities, the Priest character class becomes essential for any serious melee party, and at the very least a good character to have on your side any time in the WoW.
